About Chris

I received my massage training at the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy, the second oldest massage school in the nation and among the most respected independent schools of massage therapy in the U.S. I am licensed as a massage therapist by the State of Massachusetts, certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and am a member of the American Massage Therapy Association.

I am also a graduate of Brown University, studied drums and percussion at Berklee School of Music and have trained extensively in Chinese Martial Arts and yoga. Prior to massage, I was a database developer who spent entirely too much time in front of a computer screen. Massage has fit perfectly into my life, getting me away from a computer screen and back in touch with real human beings.

TRAINING

In addition to my basic training in Swedish, deep tissue and sports massage, I am certified in Traditional Thai MassageLomi Lomi Traditional Hawaiian Massage and MotherMassage® Pregnancy and Postpartum MassageI use a wide range of proven massage techniques including range of motion, trigger point therapy and myofascial release, and integrate techniques gleaned from my training in Thai massage, Lomi Lomi massage, Yoga, Kung Fu and Tai Chi. I specialize in deep tissue work and use hot stones in most treatments. By massaging with the hot stones themselves, I help to loosen muscles and allow deeper work in less time.

In addition, I have a specialty in treating the muscular problems associated with temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), and spent 18 months training and working alongside dentists in Eastern Massachusetts on the treatment of TMJ. Learn more about my treatment of TMJ

My diverse massage training not only provides my clients with the opportunity for a unique massage experience, but also gives me a variety of tools to make all my massages more interesting and effective.

WHO I SERVE

I serve adults of all ages in Amherst, Northampton, Western Massachusetts and beyond with a wide range of physical complaints, acute injuries, chronic pain and stress. Some clients come in to address a specific issue. Others schedule a massage as an act of self-care, my office a sanctuary where they can relax and forget about work deadlines, kids and life's challenges for an hour.

My diverse clientele include everyone from professional and collegiate athletes, dancers, yogis, martial artists, and bodybuilders; people with physically challenging jobs such as firefighters, nurses, and landscapers;  students, professors and researchers; those who spend a large number of hours per day in front of a computer screen; individuals with disabilities; stressed out parents, and more.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy is to provide a nurturing, therapeutic environment where the client can completely relax. Many clients tell me about having left other massage therapists with bruises or having suffered through painful treatments. While such treatment may be effective, I believe that pain and bruising are counter-productive and that a deep, therapeutic massage need not involve significant discomfort. Massage should be enjoyable and you should leave feeling relaxed, not beat up.

When you arrive for an appointment I will listen carefully and strive to give you both what you need and what you want. I have a wide range of styles that allow me to give you what you are looking for that day, in that appointment.
