Tai Chi & Kung Fu

Drawing on my ten years of martial arts training under Master Wen-Ching Wu at Way of the Dragon in Rhode Island, I offer beginner and intermediate martial arts classes for adults. No experience necessary. Just bring your water-bottle, an open mind, and a sense of humbleness and humor. Suggested donation of $5 per class.

Beginning Tai Chi
Saturdays 9-10am - Nacul Center Gallery, Amherst

Focusing on the Yang Style 24 Posture Standard Tai Chi Form, this twelve week course is structured for all ages and levels of physical ability. The class is tailored to meet the needs of the attending students. Each week we add a small segment of the Tai Chi routine (generally 2 postures).  The postures are broken down into their component movements then added to the form.  We also look at the martial application of each Tai Chi posture. Understanding the utility of the motion allows for greater comprehension and deeper awareness of proper alignment and body positioning. While this is not a fighting class, we do integrate basic gentle contact exercises. These Tai Chi exercises are non-impact and appropriate for students of any physical ability. Contact me to find out when the next Beginning Tai Chi series is starting.

Intermediate Tai Chi
Saturdays 10:15-11:15am - Nacul Center Gallery, Amherst

This course will re-examine and refine the 24 Posture Tai Chi Form. Each week we will explore one posture, learning about the applications of the movements. We will delve more into push hands, balance drills and martial application. Prior experience with Yang Style Tai Chi or completion of one twelve week session of Beginning Tai Chi is suggested before attending this course. All martial exercises will be gentle and suitable for any student. Contact me to find out when the next series is starting.

Beginning Kung Fu
Saturdays 11:30am-1pm - Nacul Center Gallery, Amherst

This drop-in Kung Fu class focuses on strength, flexibility and overall body conditioning. We use Kung Fu traditional training methods based in Shaolin and Northern Long Fist Kung Fu. The class is tailored to the level of fitness of the attending students, but will be a moderate to intense work out. We learn some introductory Kung Fu forms and self defense techniques but do not include fighting or weapons practice.
